Match Report 17th Sept 06
U9 Lions v Wickford Town For the new look Ekco Lions team our first match of the season was an away match v the divisions new boys Wickford Town. From our previous encounters we knew it would be a fiesty affair! Ekco started very brightly by passing the ball quickly and smartly round the wickford defence which led to the first goal after some neat build up play in and around the box Matt slotted home the first goal. The pressure started to build on the home team and the saturday training session paid dividends with a well worked corner tucked away by Connor. Ekco dominated the first 15 minutes with lots of chances but the warning signs were there just before half time and Wickford had a scorching shot saved brilliantly by Nathaniel. Half Time 2-0 Unfortunately the saturday training session didn't have enough time to cover defending corners and just after the break a corner from Wickford lead to an unmarked player scoring with a fantastic header - Game on! Suddenly we were under pressure our attacking formation was not helping our defence but Theo's crunching tackles, Rees 'cool as a cucumber sweeping up' and Lewis's saves kept it at 2-1. The 2 goal lead was restored when new boy Joe Mahoney took the ball past a defender and cracked one home. Wickord responded and with 10 minutes to go pulled another goal back and which created a tense finish to the game. Relief came with a couple of minutes to go when James Bowie found himself unmarked to cooly thump home the 4th goal. Special Mention should go to Mitch and Ben who both nearly got on the score but worked their socks off the whole game. A great start to the season and glad to have played that game on a warm september day as opposed to cold wintery day in January!! |

Under 10`s
Ekco Whitecaps 3 Leigh Ramblers 2
Well what a fantastic nailbiting game ! With both teams fighting for that win a first goal scored by James M ,un-sure if the ball crossed the line but finally given by the ref .Both teams playing well but the Ramblers equalised with a bad clearance across the goal mouth by Ekco 1-1.
1-1 at half time.
With the second half on its way The Ramblers scored with a blinding strike hitting the post but hitting the net [2-1].After the centre, a kick from the half way line by Shane B made the score 2-2.
Several attempts at the goal by both teams made no difference to the score only to see the Ramblers goalie taken off injured.Playing with a sub goalie The Ramblers conceded the loosing goal in the dying seconds {3-2} with a shot from Bradley H.
Well done to both teams
